HEIC to JPG Converter

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG or PNG. Browser-side, no upload.

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG or PNG. Browser-side — your photos stay on your device.

HEIC to JPG Converter solves the iPhone photo compatibility problem. iPhones save in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) format since iOS 11 (2017) — smaller than JPG but unsupported by many Windows tools, web upload forms, email clients, and older software. Converting to JPG makes photos universally compatible.

Pickrack's converter runs entirely in your browser using the heic2any library (MIT license, ~150KB). Photos never upload — important for privacy of personal photos, family snaps, and anything you'd rather not send to a random cloud service.

Free, no signup, batch supported. Output as JPG (smallest, lossy) or PNG (lossless, larger). Quality slider for JPG output. Drop a single photo or 50 at once.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my iPhone save as HEIC instead of JPG?

iOS 11+ defaults to HEIC for photos because it's ~50% smaller than JPG at same quality. To save as JPG instead: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. Existing HEIC photos in your library can be converted with Pickrack.

Is my photo uploaded to your server?

No. heic2any runs entirely in your browser using a JavaScript decoder. Photos process locally — verify in DevTools → Network. Zero requests during conversion.

Are date, location, and camera tags kept after conversion?

Partial — heic2any preserves orientation and basic metadata but may lose some Apple-specific fields like Live Photo links and depth maps. For full metadata preservation (e.g., when converting iPhone albums by date), use exiftool locally to copy EXIF from HEIC to JPG after conversion.

How large a HEIC photo can I convert?

50MB per HEIC file. Live photos (HEIC + MOV) are typically under 5MB. Standard photos are 1-3MB. ProRAW HEIC can be 25-50MB, which fits within the limit.

Will quality drop converting to JPG?

JPG is lossy, so technically yes — but at 92% quality, the difference is invisible to human eyes. For lossless output, choose PNG (larger files but pixel-perfect).

Can I convert HEIC live photos (HEIC + MOV)?

v1 converts only the HEIC still image, not the MOV video portion. You'd export the MOV separately from Photos.app or use a desktop tool.

Does it work on mobile browsers?

Yes on Chrome and Safari mobile. Performance on iPhone is fast (heic2any is native to the platform). Useful when you need to convert photos on-the-go before emailing.

Are there iPhone-side alternatives?

Yes — Photos.app on iOS will export to JPG when you AirDrop to a Mac with 'Most Compatible' enabled, or when you Share → Save to Files. But for batch conversion or non-Apple devices, Pickrack is faster.
