Frequently asked questions
Where does 'Lorem ipsum' come from?
It's a scrambled excerpt from Cicero's 'De finibus bonorum et malorum' (On the Ends of Goods and Evils, 45 BC). The original phrase 'dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet' was scrambled by a 16th-century printer. Used as design placeholder ever since.
Why use Latin instead of English?
Latin word distribution mimics prose without the reader actually reading it. English placeholder ('the the the' or 'asdfasdf') is too noticeable; Latin looks like 'real text' to the eye while still being meaningless.
Are the generated paragraphs realistic length?
Yes — 50-100 words per paragraph (matching average prose). Sentence length varies 8-20 words. Output is statistically similar to real article structure.
Can I get Lorem Ipsum in Vietnamese / Spanish / etc.?
Pickrack v1 outputs Latin only (the design-industry standard). Localized variants exist (Hipster Ipsum, Bacon Ipsum, Pirate Ipsum) — search for those if you want themed placeholder text.
Does it generate the same text every time?
No — words are shuffled randomly each generation. Click Generate again for a different output.
What's the maximum count?
1000 words, 100 sentences, or 20 paragraphs. Beyond that, output gets repetitive (the source word list has only 200 unique words).
Is it suitable for SEO testing?
No — Lorem Ipsum is meaningless Latin and won't help with SEO simulations. For SEO testing, use real keyword-targeted content.
Does it work for typography testing (italic, accents)?
Yes — Latin uses standard Latin alphabet, so basic typography renders. For diacritic testing (Vietnamese, accented Latin), include some pre-typed sample text alongside Lorem.
